Most software offered by SURFspot cannot be installed directly on a Chromebook. Many products are supplied with an installer for Windows or macOS, while a Chromebook uses ChromeOS.
Which software usually does not work?
Windows installers, such as .exe files, and macOS installers, such as .dmg or .pkg files, do not run directly on ChromeOS. This applies to many desktop versions of Office, SPSS and other specialist software.
Can you use a web or Android version?
Some vendors offer a web application or Android app that may work on a Chromebook. Check whether that version is included with the SURFspot licence. Access to a desktop licence does not automatically include the web or Android version.
Check compatibility before ordering
- Open the SURFspot product page.
- Check the system requirements and supported operating systems.
- Look specifically for ChromeOS, web browser or Android support.
- Do not order the product for a Chromebook if only Windows and macOS are listed.
