Update May 7, 2026: a new version of the Interim Fix is available
A security issue has been found in the software (Java) that SPSS uses to run. This applies to SPSS versions 27 through 31. The vulnerability is not in your SPSS files or analyses, but in the background software. IBM has released a security solution for this: an Interim Fix. It is important that you download and install this Interim Fix.
Have you previously installed an Interim Fix? If so, you still need to repeat the steps and install the latest version.
Why is this important?
Without this fix, the vulnerable software remains on your system and could potentially be exploited. IBM has confirmed these security issues and provided an update for each SPSS version. Installing the fix is the only way to resolve the issue. You can find more information in the official IBM Security Bulletin.
What should you do?
- Check which version of SPSS you're using. Where can I find which version of SPSS I am using?
- Download and install the correct security fix for your version. You can find the download links and instructions in our manual.
- Follow the steps in our guide for Windows or Mac.
No longer using SPSS?
If you’re no longer using SPSS, you can simply uninstall the program from your computer. That will also remove the vulnerable software, and installing the fix is not necessary.
